As a massive geek, I make it my business to keep up with the goings on in the life of our friendly neighborhood Spider-Man. Lately, I've been noticing a lot of hints that maybe, just maybe, he might be a secret Kossack.
Of course, we all remember issue 583, where he actually teamed up with President Obama to stop the Chameleon...
That issue sold out and had to be reprinted several times. Nice.
But my friends, that would not be the last time he indulged himself in a little bit of terrorist fist-jabbing. Check out him and that socialist Canuck Wolverine digressing from talk of taking down Norman Osborn back in ASM 595...
Of course, these two are fairly broad references. Not exactly difficult to get. But in this week's issue, number 603, they made a Saxby Chambliss joke.
For a New York based hero, that's a fairly obscure callout. This can only mean one thing: the people behind the web-slinger are on our side. Sweeeeet.
Maybe next issue Peter Parker will endorse the public option...
Of course, I expect Fox News to decry all this as shameful indoctrination of the youth of America. Those guys. Ick.
UPDATE:
Discussion of Tony Stark/Iron Man as a Neocon has inspired me to link up the speech Spider-Man gave when he left Iron Man's side in the Civil War. Technically he's referring to Mr. Fantastic's Negative Zone prison, but I think we can all recognize this as "Spider-Man talks about Gitmo."
