As Stephen Colbert used to say: "Pick a side -- we're at war!"
Health care reform -- more importantly the fight for a strong public option -- is war, and it's time we treat it that way. Senator Ben Nelson is stuck between a rock and a hard place right now. In one corner, the millions of dollars he gets from the insurance companies every year. In the other corner, Nebraska voters who very loudly applauded the idea of a public option during a town hall yesterday.
You wouldn't think that would be a tough decision for Nelson.
But it is, and we need to point him in the right direction. It's no more mister nice guy.
Ben Nelson, I highly doubt you read Daily Kos. But I'm sure you've got an intern on it. So Nelson's intern, you relay this message to your boss. Now is the time to put up or shut up. Stand up or get out of the way. Which is it -- the insurance companies or the voters? You can't have both.
Pick a side -- because we're at war!
So what are we gonna do? Take action.
Here's how we can get it gone:
CALL SENATOR NELSON'S WASHINGTON OFFICE IN SUPPORT OF A PUBLIC OPTION
Here's the number: 1-202-224-6551
Be respectful. Tell the staffer you are calling with good faith intentions that Ben Nelson is working for the people of Nebraska. Mention SurveyUSA's poll yesterday as a major talking point for why he needs to support a public option. If you're from Nebraska, tell them that too. Tell them it works because it controls costs, provides choice, and is deficit neutral. Tell them the public option, is the only option.
WRITE SENATOR NELSON AN EMAIL IN SUPPORT OF A PUBLIC OPTION
Here's the link: http://bennelson.senate.gov/...
Same talking points as above. Stand strong, write a letter with respect, and it will get through.
MAKE A DONATION TO DFA SO THEY CAN KEEP RUNNING ADS IN NEBRASKA
Link to donate: http://www.actblue.com/...
These ads are making a difference in Nebraska. Mike Sniders' story is so touching no politician can ignore it. DFA needs to keep up it's efforts and your support will go a long, long way.

Ben Nelson can't play this game much longer. You can't act as the servant of two masters anymore.
Pick a side -- pick the right side. Take a stand against the old politics that I know you don't believe in.
Tap the emotion I saw in you when you endorsed Barack Obama last year. I saw you speak with passion I've never seen from you when you endorsed and campaigned for Obama. You found something to believe in -- now act and stand with the President, the voters, and for a public option.
Please.
