That was the essence of the phone call I received this morning. My first reservation request was for a private room to hold a meeting to see if there was local support to run someone against Texas Rep Mike Connaway. Plot a revolution, if you will.
Well, that's interesting, so I listened. Here's what's brewing out here in central Texas. I was told that there is a candidate without political experience who "is one of us." (where have I heard that before?) There will be record turn out at the polls next election to throw out ALL the incumbents, dems and repubs alike, because people are so angry that their government does not answer to their desires. He asked if I was a Democrat, practically spitting it out. I told him I was an independent and that I didn't usually talk politics with my customers but I've voted on both sides of the isle. I said that I thought the real problem with our government was corruption caused by lobby and corporate money.
I was opening my business for the day and I didn't have time to get into a lengthy health care argument or any kind of argument. I actually needed some business today. He told me that we need people who are not politicians, who are one of us (there it is again) to run government, basically we are going to take our government back at the polls next cycle with 30 new freshmen. They will all be "one of us", then he started to say something about Pat Buchanan and I had to tell him he was talking to the wrong person. This cost me the sale. Oh well. He seemed kind of surprised that someone who was a business owner wouldn't automatically agree with his position. It kind of deflated the idea that we are storming the polls to elect "one of us" next election. I wanted to add that it seemed a bad idea to hire an inexperienced person to practice statesmanship on our behalf. I wanted to tell him that he had not defined who "one of us" is. I think "us" is one of him and not one of me or you. I feel quite certain that "one of us" is not black, hispanic or female.
Anyway this is a warning from Central Texas that "they" (I can play with scary pronouns too) are trying to whip up a mob mentality to elect the Joes and Sarahs who are "one of us" to retake "our" country. Then, if that doesn't work, they'll resort to guns or something. Yup, the revolution is coming. I think we ought to take it seriously.
