Let me start out by stating that I am a currently employed, middle-aged, middle-class, retired military black man. Also I get my health care through the military and VA so I personally don't have any health care issues.....yet. But I do have adult children with families whom this issue affects significantly, thus my interest. I have been watching and commenting on the HCR debate for sometime now. Follow me below the fold and maybe help me understand that which perplexes me to no end.
What is the difference between a black/latino/asia/native american family and a white family without healthcare. My guess is not much. So why is it that many of these legions of white folks (not entirely white) protesting health care seem to be of this demographic. How can it be that these folks allow someone like Hannity or Limbaugh influence their opinions. You see no matter how these reforms works out in the end, the Hannity and Limbaugh types are going to still be able to afford whatever healthcare they need. These folks just don't get it that the mouth pieces on radio or TV are really only looking out for their own interest because they want to avoid paying more in taxes. I am not one who believes because you are rich that the government should be able to take your money with impunity. However, I do believe that when you are well off, you can pay more yet still live a fairly comfortable lifestyle.
What is it that makes these people consistently take positions contrary to their own interest. I have heard on a few occassions that this mindset is steeped in racism. When you look at the big picture this seems to be fairly accurate. It seems that they identify with the Hannitys and Limbaughs because they look like them. But the racial connection these folks are no different than other struggling Americans seeking affordable healthcare.
These folks need to get a clue
Are we as Americans really that intellectually confused/mallable. I guess some of us are.
