Went to a town hall meeting on Health care for the 23th district represented by Ciro Rodriguez and moderatd by Henry Cisneros last night and have come to the conclusion conservatives are out of their freaking minds.
Wow!
You really have to see these health care town hall meetings, live and in person, to appreciate just how bat shit insane the republican base has become.
From the opening question, relating to death panels no less, to the end of the meeting two hours later, it was a rolling raucous of yahoo's trying to shout down congressman Rodriguez and his support of Health Care Reform. Like in the movie Puppetmasters, you could practically picture Rush Limbaugh attached to the base of their neck, his tongue shoved up into their brains and them squawking and screeching about death panels, abortions and why congress is allowing Obama to surround himself with radicals.
Audible groans could be heard throughout when questions of illegal aliens getting health care was asked. This being San Antonio and with more than half the audience members Latino, you could see eyes rolling and hear a shout or two of racism directed towards those individuals asking the question.
As raucous as it was, congressman Rodriguez did a good job of answering the questions, not like they weren't hard to begin with, ninety percent of them being bullshit. Just the usual rightwing lies and crap one would expect to hear from FOX News or Hannity the inanity.
Though more of those whack-jobs showed up, those pro-health care reform were well represented too. I would think the makeup being along the lines of 60/40. Even so, given the nature of the subject and the virulent reaction among the rightwing base that it brings, it behooves democrats to become more involved and start showing up at these meetings en masse in voicing support for HCR.
Having seen the makeup of the rightwing base in action, I can understand why they're so enthralled with Sara Palin. They're cut from the same cloth and as big a whack-job as herself. We're really going to have to fight to get HCR passed for I can't fathom losing to these idiots. That would be a tragedy all unto it's own.
Here's a taste of the type of questions that were asked.
