I was trying to find a certain song, Sudden Waves by June Tabor to listen to, because it felt right to hear this afternoon, as Ted Kennedy is laid to rest at Arlington Cemetery, beside his brothers.
Ted Kennedy fought for cancer care for the young through his whole career, and he was a longtime champion of the Dana Farber Institute in Boston. I started to play the video not realizing what it was, not looking at the attribution.
All three of Ted's kids have had cancer.
Kara Kennedy developed cancer of the lung in 2002 and was told it was inoperable, that she had a year to live. His son Edward lost a leg to bone cancer when he was 12 years old. Patrick, who is a Congressman from Rhode Island was hospitalized after cancer surgery in 1988.
Here's a Boston Globe article about all the health problems they have had over the years.

So yes .. I found the video and was confused by the imagery at first, not understanding what it was about. It's a beautiful video, and the song always makes me think of my father when I hear it.
He passed away in 2001 from lung cancer.
And the tie in between the legacy of Ted's lifelong fight against cancer and this video are now fused together, making this piece yet more poignant for me personally.
I think too, of some of the other Kossacks we have lost in this community to cancer, Johnny Rook, drchelo, Station wagon .. and many others. I'm listening to it now, and the tears are flowing.

The waves, there are waves, sudden waves break over me
there are waves, sudden waves over me
there are days when the way that I want is not to be
and I am lost
There are days, broken days,
when the gales we sail have blown
there are waves, sudden waves over me
and the sea carries me on a course that’s not my own
and I’m alone
There are storms, sudden storms
when the form of life is lost
there are waves, sudden waves over me
and it’s chance, not design makes the line my
life has crossed
and I may drown
There are bays, peaceful bays
in the harbour of your hand
where the waves, sudden waves cannot reach
there are days
when the ways of your words can make dry land
and I can stay.

A tribute to our fellow Kossack, Edward Moore Kennedy.
Your legacy of fighting for cancer research will not be forgotten, that fight will go on.
