"A study reported in The American Journal of Medicine this month found that 62 percent of American bankruptcies are linked to medical bills. These medical bankruptcies had increased nearly 50 percent in just six years. Astonishingly, 78 percent of these people actually had health insurance, but the gaps and inadequacies left them unprotected when they were hit by devastating bills."

Good lord, how is there even an argument about needing a public insurance plan run by people who are not slaves to a bottom line and stock holders demanding blood money?
How is it that our side hasn't made the case clear enough to the undecideds and to the right?
How are elected officials not feeling heat from the people who stand to be ruined for life by cancer, or a heart attack, or MS, or any of a number ways people get seriously sick?
How can we, the greatest country ever, not provide something for ourselves that every other modern western country has managed to provide?
Why are we not even arguing over the right things (how to pay for it?) instead of the wrong things. (Is end of life counciling really a good idea? If we don't plan for our death, maybe we'll live forever. Why not give that a try!)
I know the answer is a duped, slavish, brain dead corporate MSM, lies and distortions from the right and a seemingly disinterested public who really doesn't want to talk about health insurance until a medical disaster strikes.
It just seems absurd to me. We can find a trillion dollars for a unneeded war, but a public health insurance plan? That's just crazy.
Sigh.
