I'm hoping someone here can shed a little more light on whether or not Re. Anthony Weiner is playing a major role in the health care debate/bill writing on the Hill, if for no other reason than the fact that he is far and away the BEST Democratic advocative for health reform we progressives have.
Rep. Weiner just finished a stirring debate on health care reform with "Money Hunny" Bartiromo on MSNBC, which concluded with the most honest lines ever delivered. Weiner said -- and I'm paraphrasing for lack of transcript -- that his responsibility in all of this is to the taxpayers; Bartiromo, wanting to get the last word in, summed up her argument by stating that it's her responsibility to protect the "investors" (i.e., the insurance industry's bottom line.)
This in and of itself is hardly news. But what was most impressive about this exchange is that Weiner was amazingly effective in breaking down his role versus "theirs" with respect to whose interests they really have in mind. Whatever happens when this is all said and done, we owe Anthony Weiner a huge debt of gratitude for standing up for progressive principles. Here's a guy that's proven to be a real leader, and we're sincerely blessed to have his voice represent us in Washington.
UPDATE/VIDEO CALL: If anyone can find this video, will be happy to post (As noted in the comments, the exchange took place during the latter portion of Carlos Watson's news hour just before "Dr. Nancy". Definitely must-see TV.
