Like most of you I'm pissed about the health care debate.
Like most of you I hate FOX.
Like most of you I hate what Glenn Beck is allowed to on air with no repercussions.
Like most of you I haven't done much to pressure the change in health-care.
I broke tonight. I want your help. Binder&Binder is a law firm that sells disability payments. I felt that this was a personal issue that I couldn't ignore.
I broke because of this diary. Enough is enough.
Your help: I would love to hear your suggestion on how to make this a stronger letter.
Thank You
Hello,
I am writing to address my concerns regarding Binder & Binder advertising during
the Glenn Beck show on the Fox Network. As I'm sure you know by now, Glenn Beck
has accused the President of the United States of being a "racist" and for
having "a deep seated hatred of white people". These are not my words, they are
the words of the man you support through your advertising.
Glenn Beck has also advocated "killing people with a shovel". These are not my
words but his. You may have missed these comment as they were made on his radio
show. As you advertise on his FOX program, you probably weren't aware of the
comments he made on his radio show. The people specifically states as wanting to
"kill with a shovel" are Jessie Jackson and Charles Rangel. The former is a
civil rights activist, the later is an US Congressman. Both are black. Even as
a white American I take offense to this particular invective. In my opinion, the
real racist is Glenn Beck.
Which brings me back to your choice of advertising during the Glenn Beck show. I
understand that you are trying to reach a specific demographic with your
advertising. Since I live in Lafayette, IN, I am close to the Chicago market. I
have seen your advertisements. They weren't during Glenn Beck. It was during Judge Judy. A court show, on a local affiliate channel, where the demographic you're trying to reach is probably more likely to watch than the Glenn Beck show on FOX.
I also understand, through the blogsite Daily Kos, that you subscribe to Run of Schedule on FOX and you don't get to choose your scheduling program. Here's what I don't understand. Your firm is willing to pay good money to run random ads on a network that randomly runs your ads and had the chance to have an ad run during a program that has a man spout hateful speech against the President of the United States? I can not support any organization that is willing to have its name dragged through the mud to make a dollar.
Here's the rub. My fiancee has a disability. She may need the services of an organization like yours one day. She will not pay money to an organization that supports hate-speech, implicit or otherwise. By advertising on the Glenn Beck show, you are slowly alienating your base. This is not conjecture, this is fact.
Finally, Glenn Beck advocates against the current health care reform bill. You advocate for people with disabilities. You must surely know that under our current health care system that a life with disabilities is a life with poverty.
Under the current system there are income and asset limits on health care...disability benefits, specifically people who want to work but can't because they can't find health coverage to supplement the cost. I know these people. They are my friends.
My question to you is: Is it worthwhile to alienate future clients for a short-term gain in profits by supporting a racist ideologue, or is it better to build support in the community you profess to represent and ultimately help them achieve a better quality of living?
Supporting Glenn Beck will not help you ideologically and as a result it will not help you financially. Please do the right thing.
Please fight to not support a racist.
