I've got a rich variety of items for "this day in history." A couple have a WWII theme, 1 has an incompetence theme, and 1 is an occasion for THE cake. I KNOW y'all love that cake! ;D
So, let's get this party started!
On this date in 1944, Navy pilot George H.W. Bush was shot down by Japanese forces as he completed a bombing run over the Bonin Islands. The future President was rescued by a U.S. submarine. And, exactly 1 year later, Japan formally surrendered in ceremonies aboard the USS Missouri, ending World War II. Today on the campus where I work & teach, there was a 13' model of the USS Indianapolis; here's a picture.
There is only 1 survivor left who is originally from Indianapolis, served on the Indianapolis, and STILL LIVES in Indianapolis. Here is a memory - refresher of what happened in the worst disaster in the history of the Navy.
On this date in 2005, a National Guard convoy packed with food, water, and medicine rolled into New Orleans four days after Hurricane Katrina. A picture says a thousand words.
Finally, let's all wish a happy birthday to SC GOP Senator Jim DeMint. For your continual support for a whacked out Argentinian soul mate lovin' Governor, and for saying health care is a privilege & not a right, baby, you SO DESERVE this cake with the invitation to GO CHENEY YOURSELF!
Let's Countdown.
#5 "Bully Pulpit" AKA "The Big Push" AKA "At Odds, to What End?" - President Obama is going to lay out his vision of health care reform in front of a joint session of Congress next Wednesday evening; it’s about damn time! And, don’t be treating those GOPers with kid gloves, either! Kick GOP a$$ & take names & MENTION names! The White House is still refusing to confirm if a public option (or lack thereof) is a deal breaker. Speaker Pelosi & Senator Reid will meet with President Obama on Tuesday; they better not leave with just a strongly – worded letter. "Small Price to Pay" Boehner is still spewing the "...government takeover of health care..." memo. David Axelrod said,
The spirit that led him [the President] to support a public option is still very much at play here and so you know he wants competition. He wants choice.
Um...yea (?) Should I be jumping up & down over this? I DID like Mr. Axelrod’s remarks about Chucky!
If you’re sitting at a table negotiating in good faith, then you probably don’t sent out mailers saying, ‘Help me stop Obama – care.’ That’s just common sense.
Hello?! ;D Now, why hasn’t Rahm E. said anything along those lines up to this point? O...M...G... we’ve got Chucky doing a "No option! We want choice!" thing again. This is just...wow...
There’s a feeling that the only way to get a bipartisan agreement is to defeat a Democratic proposal in the first hand and then the Democrats will come to Republican leadership.
Chucky, change your meds – SERIOUSLY! Rep. Phil Gingery is trying to offer President Obama veto advice. Ain’t that neighborly? President Obama is going to be at an AFL – CIO picnic in Cincinnati; the head of that organization has said there may be "consequences" for him & other Dems who trash any public option in a health care reform bill. There is massive public confusion over health care reform; gee, I wonder why. But, the American people know that SOMETHING has to change because the "system" we now have is unsustainable. President Obama BETTER be damn specific about a public option; I think he’ll be in deep soup if he doesn’t. OK, the story Clarence Page told concerning "dialogue" between the White House & Olympia Snowe is a 2 – year delay in a public option & insurance reform in the meantime. No, no, no, no, and NO!!! The insurance industry will find ways around any "reform"; they have already. And, if a public option (or variation thereof) isn’t part of a deal NOW, it’ll never happen. Rahm E. wants this???!!!! OK, yet another reason to be against it. I wonder what Howard Dean thinks of this? It’s the Great Orange Satan! HA! Markos ain’t buyin’ this "compromise", either; we both haz teh smart! ;D I absolutely agree with Markos; President Obama learned the wrong lesson from the Clinton health care reform failure. He gave Congress TOO MUCH leeway for TOO LONG.
#4 "The Prosecution Attests" AKA "Justice for All" - Senator Sheldon Whitehouse wholeheartedly supports the torture probe. So does {insert image of me fighting the urge to retch here} Fredo. OK, he CANNOT be doing this out of the goodness of his heart & some sudden concern for that pesky law stuff! His snout is so deep into so much of what was allowed to transpire in our names. He’s got to be looking for some kind of immunity deal in exchange for cooperation or something. The GWB administration did finally get around to admitting we were waterboarding detainees (thanks DICK!) – a criminal act in all sorts of circles. Senator Whitehouse wants DICK, David Addington, & John Yoo to be investigated as well. Sheldon, I love you!! Rep. Jerry Nadler said the same on FAUX News. What the spark is a Dem going on FAUX News for? I admire his efforts but damn! Yea for Senator Whitehouse! Oh Senator, don’t get your hopes up about any "agreement" between you & Fredo. I swear Fredo’s looking for an immunity deal. Wow, Senator Whitehouse explained the Addington – Yoo gruesome twosome wonderfully. John Yoo may not be just inherently genetically an incompetent bad lawyer; he may have received instruction from DICK to be so! Once again, a picture is worth a thousand words.
** A guy in India blew up a balloon with his ear. Well, at least he didn’t blow it out of his...well...you know. ;D Bulgarians are fire walking. I hope they took their Beano before they did; that would be painful! Hey! I have yet another opportunity for Blazing Saddles clips - KEWL! **
#3 "A Ridge Too Far" AKA "Baby Got Backtrack" - Gee, how did I know that Keith would bring up Mr. Ridge’s time with Rachel last night?! ;D Keith thinks Rumsfeld & Ashcroft "got to him." I think someone else got to him. That someone would be someone that shoots friends in the face & gets the shot friend to apologize. There’s John Dean! YEA! Poor Tommy can’t remember what he wrote in his own book anymore. Mr. Dean believes the same kind of personal use of government offices for political gain that got people in Watergate & Iran Contra was done under Tom Ridge’s shnoz in Homeland Security under GWB & DICK. And, Mr. Dean thinks Tommy may have admitted as such in the book. And, how ‘bout Mr. Dean’s clarification about the book jacket stuff?! Tom Ridge would’ve been sent the material to be on the book jacket for his approval. So, his denial of what was on there to Rachel last night was, to steal a phrase from Rachel, BULL PUCKY!
WPITW – Eric Cantor wants the remainder of the stim program scrapped since it’s been a horrible failure. Even WSJ has called it a success – OOPS! Lonesome Rhodes & the head of the Florida GOP is actively telling kids to skip school to avoid hearing a speech from President Obama. I hope area truant officers get a hold of this memo, too! Michael Steele didn’t take too kindly to a woman who dared to speak up at one of his town halls at Howard University.
#1 "More Wasilliness" AKA "Me & Mrs. Palin" - Levi Johnston is dishing more about his former future MIL in Vanity Fair, and, man, is it GOOD! Some of Levi’s musings include St. Sarah from Wasilla’s opinion that being Governor was hard, she was running for POTUS, and she doesn’t hunt AT ALL. She supposedly had to ask him how to fire a gun. Then, what did she do with that purty white rifle the NRA gave her? St. Sarah from Wasilla apparently ain’t exactly Little Suzy Homemaker, either. Bristol helped her younger siblings with their homework, and Levi would grill stuff for the kids to eat. And, here’s the killer one in my humblest of opinions. She wanted to adopt Levi & Bristol’s baby to keep the fact that Bristol was pregnant a secret, and apparently, she just wouldn’t let the subject go despite numerous refusals from both Levi & Bristol!
...She would say, ‘So, are you gonna let me adopt him?’ We both kept telling her we were definitely not going to let her adopt the baby. I think Sarah wanted to make Bristol look good, and she didn’t want people to know that her 17 – year – old daughter was going to have a kid.
Wow, if there’s a grain of truth to this at all, my respect for Bristol just increased 10K – fold. St. Sarah from Wasilla had already sparked up her own kids’ lives; Bristol was sure as $hit not going to let Mommie Dearest do that to HER kid.
Lucky Craig Crawford gets to wax the AK former first family again! Keith, you named your fantasy football team for HER?! For sparks’ sake, why? If Grandma ExGov TurkeyLover’s domestic skills are anything of the sort Levi described, this may be as close as she’s ever gotten to a Thanksgiving turkey! ;D
