During an interview with the Lincoln Journal Star, Senator Ben "Blue Cross" Nelson put to rest any confusion about where he stands on health care reform... and it ain't pretty.
(continue after the jump)
During the interview, Nelson made clear that he is a hack for the insurance industry, stating, "I see two endings. One is we find areas we can agree upon and we begin to do things incrementally, taking more of an insurance approach, not a government approach. Or it implodes." Those of us who are progressive and live out here knew this was coming, but some out there have continued to hold out hope that nelson might actually have a spine and do the right thing. He doesn't. He won't. As with everything in this country's political system, just follow the money. Nelson has received $1.6M in campaign money from the health industry over his career.
Nelson is one of the most infuriating Democrats around. Frankly, I'd prefer a Republican over his mealy-mouthed BS any time. At least a Republican would be up front about their conservatism. Nelson jumped on the Obama bandwagon for his own aggrandizement during the campaign, but has opposed him at several crucial junctures now that O is president. Sure, it is a conservative and Republican state out here, but there comes a time when you need to stand up and do the right, moral and ethical thing. Delivering 50 million Americans to the insurance industry is not right, it is immoral and unethical. Period.
I hope you will contact Nelson's office and let him know that you thunderously oppose his pathetic pandering to the worst political impulses in Nebraska and for shilling for the health insurance industry:
