....just like conservatives. We go on and on about the party of no...and it's true...that's just what they are. But...what happens if WE say no to health care...or even insurance...reform...if we don't get everything that we want.
I have a preexisting condition. I can't get coverage for my back, because I've been hospitalized for it in the last ten freaking years.
So....I get a rider, that means I can't have ANYTHING done for my back for the next five years...and then, maybe...I'll get coverage.
The ability of insurance companies to turn down people....at will...and at their whim...is the real problem. Yes...cost is getting out of control, and maybe a govt. plan would help with that cost...but right now...if the progressive caucus votes down insurance reform, just because there isn't a public option...I'm going to go ballistic.
I wonder...how many people who are yelling and screaming that Obama isn't following through on single payor or govt. option...or who are threatening to leave the party if they don't get what they want...
....know who the possible primary opponents are of the blue dogs...and the democrats who are in conservative districts...and who are vulnerable if they come out in support of a govt. plan. If they are serious...they would be sending money to strong progressives to primary challenge those conservative dems....(even though, you would probably find that having those dems in the caucus...giving us freaking control of congress...is the one and only reason we even have a chance of passing ANYTHING!!!)
Go ahead...fuck up my life. Vote no on insurance reform...knowing full well that it isn't everything you want...but it IS a good start...and knowing full well that we aren't in a goddamn vacuum here...you can try again later for a govt. plan...you can get more progressives to win congressional seats...you can work in the only system we've got.
Sure...go ahead...give the bloody bonkers republicans just what they want. Show them that acting bat shit crazy will give them the power they're lacking by losing the congress. I can just imagine the fun we'll be having for the next year if THAT happens.
