Using the New York Daily News article " Michelle Obama's smashing summer style" as a jumping-off point, posters at Free Republic have once again taken the opportunity to post racist comments about the President Obama and his family.
Direct quotes after the jump.
Note: updated with a new one about cleaning ladies dressing better.
Some of you may recall the brouhaha about a month ago when the denizens of the right wing stronghold Free Republic made dozens of racist comments about President Obama and his family on their trip to Europe. Free Republic got a lot of unwanted exposure over that, mainly due to theHalfrican's Kos post. (Followups by catM and frankzappatista are good reads as well.)The owner, Jim Robinson, subsequently scrubbed the offensive posts from their thread and posted a milquetoast warning to Freepers to keep things civil.
It appears that Jim's warning didn't take, as this Free Republic thread today demonstrates.
However, after reviewing the entire thread, I have to give them a smidgen of credit. After seeing the following gems on the first page, I was expecting a flood of comments in the same vein to continue, as happened previously. These were actually the only racist comments I noticed in the thread, so I apologize if I'm creating a tempest in a teapot. I still find it odd that while posters later in their thread chastise someone for making generically rude remarks, no one seemed perturbed by the racial ones.
Warning: Offensive material follows.
- Not racist yet:
On top of being somewhat ugly, Michelle is a classless, elitist buffoon.

I've seen that pic before used in threads around the intertubes, and it's cute on its own, but when used in reference to the First Lady, it doesn't feel right.
- The "front porch" quote:
Michelle looks like she should be on the front porch with a 40 and a blunt.

***new one ***
- Occupational hazard?
I know some cleaning people that dress better than her. The Daily News is sick indeed. Michelle is a slob. She cannot measure up to Condi Rice or Sarah Palin when it come to class and she will never measure up to Laura Bush.

So as I mentioned, not an awful lot of racist comments, but still annoying that people could be so…I don't know…dense?
Do they not realize that joking that you misread "bufoon" as "baboon" is kind of rude, and that calling the first lady a porch monkey is beyond the pale?
Am I being super-PC?
