Apologies in advance for such a short diary, but a few moments ago on Morning Joe, Joe Scarborough sounded as if he was coming out against torture. If you watch the program with any regularity, you'll know that up until today, he's been a huge torture apologist. That changed when he was talking about a detainee, saying:
And what about the prison conditions? There's rape, beatings, forced confessions... It's right out of Stalin's playbook."
Jump...
Unfortunately, Joe wasn't coming out against U.S. torture policies; rather, he was talking about Maziar Bahari, a Newsweek reporter recently detained in Iran and held without charge:
Bahari was home asleep at 7 a.m. when several security officers showed up at his Tehran apartment. According to his mother, who lives with the 41-year-old reporter and documentary filmmaker, the men did not identify themselves. They seized Bahari's laptop and several videotapes. Assuring her that he would be their guest, they then left with Bahari. He has not been heard from since.
I have just one question for Joe - Apply different standards much?
