Dear Congresswoman Davis,
I hope you will take a stand in favor of having a public option in the upcoming healthcare reform bill.
President Obama is in favor of it, as I am sure you know, but he is under a lot of pressure from the usual suspects, and he needs allies to help in that fight.
You have not taken any kind of pledge. I know other Representatives have reasons such as being from a conservative state or having a tough re-election fight, but you are under none of those constraints.
Almost all districts in California were drawn in 2000 to favor the incumbents. You are guaranteed to keep your seat - in the general election. The public favors it, and Democratic voters are even more strongly supportive.
It is unfair that a senator from Montana, which has a smaller population than that of the 53rd district, is able to obstruct reform to such a great degree.
He deals with Republicans who are not bargaining in good faith and regularly insult the President. In addition, his new plan was not even given to the White House before he released it, only to lobbyists. This is not even counting the fact that a recent Research 2000 poll has said that the people of Montana are in favor a of a public health insurance option.
According to the CBO, a public option will save taxpayer dollars, so fiscal conservatism is not an excuse. People will still have the choice of any insurance provide that they want, so the fear of government forcing something on those who dont want it is also not warranted.
It is essentially Medicare-for-all, which was actually the name of a bill championed by the late, great Senator Kennedy.
I really see no reason why you can't support it. But if you feel you do have a valid reason, I would love to know about it.
Thank you.
