In an angry and very audible outburst, Representative Joe Wilson, Republican of South Carolina, interrupted President Obama’s speech Wednesday night with a shout of “You lie.”
Today the United States of America was disrespected.
I cannot believe that in this day and age disrespect is so outrageous that children curse at their parents.
I cannot believe that in this day and age disrespect is so outrageous that teachers fear their students.
I cannot believe that in this day and age disrespect is so outrageous that the elderly are robbed.
But the disrespect Joe Wilson showed on September 9, 2009 towards the President of the United States of America, the home of the brave, my history, my home that I pledged allegiance with liberty and justice for all to, is without measure.
This is the President. If you don't have respect for your wife, children, elders whoever it may be, the reasons why and how you handle those relationships are your personal business. But when the lack of respect is towards my President, my country, my home, and my American values in democracy and freedom, that is beyond insult and an assault on our united allegiance. An assault on everything that is good. An assault on every former President. An assault on every government worker. An assault on every tax payer. An assault on everyone born on American soil. An assault on our troops. This is enough to make anyone cry out of rage.
I love the United States of America. I cannot remember a time that I did not know the Pledge of Allegiance. I was born here, fight for it to continue its legacy of freedom and justice for all, and will die here. I have not always agreed with the President, but I always respected him.
Today the United States of America was disrespected.
