I got an e-mail asking for my signature on a petition to censure Joe Wilson for calling the president a liar during his speech last night. I don't personally care much that he acted like a toddler, even if it's specifically against the House Rules of Decorum. I think a better tactic to combat Joe's action is to demand to see his evidence.
Last night the president outlined his goals for a health care reform bill that he would sign into law. He spent less time on the various legislation moving through Congress and a lot more time expressing what he wants to see done. He was saying, "do this, and we can make it a law. Do something else, and we won't."
So when he said, "There are also those who claim that our reform effort will insure illegal immigrants. This, too, is false - the reforms I'm proposing would not apply to those who are here illegally," and Joe Wilson called him a liar, Joe was being a little premature. It'd be like I said, "I'm going to eat an orange," and being called a liar.
I say we ask Rep. Wilson for his evidence. No, let's demand to see his proof that the president intends to cover illegal immigrants. Let's send him an e-mail, and call his office, and invite him on talk shows... I'm open to other ideas.
Here's his office's phone number: 202-225-2452
