I've been around this block a few times. I've seen some pretty large tip jars. I've even seen a couple explode and reset back to zero after getting packed with recommends.
Right now we're filling the tip jar of Bill in Portland Maine. Hey, I'm not too proud to beg on behalf of one helluva guy!
Daily Kos is a political blog, yeah, but as many of us have observed before, the people who are here came for the politics, but stayed for the community.
One of the welcome mats that newcomers find left out for them in this community is Cheers and Jeers. I wasn't a C&J'er myself for years, but when I showed up, Bill not only noticed, but he said hello. That was cool for me.
Not only that, but when I got the opportunity later on to do some fundraising work with Netroots For the Troops (opposite known cheater JeffLieber, who some reports have claimed raised more money than me), I got to work with Bill as well, and it was a pleasure!
Even in an e-mail to 3-4 people, by the way, Bill is always "on." He's exactly how you'd imagine him. I wonder if he doesn't wear out Common Sense Mainer with the constant comedy... Ha.
These days a little Cheers and Jeers is the best part of waking up for me -- except for maybe a little coffee and hugs from Droogie Jr. But I'm sure to the rest of you, a Daily Kos without Cheers and Jeers and Bill to run it would be a scary thing! I know it would scare me anyway.
Bill is a pillar of our community. A bright star in the DKos sky. He keeps us grounded when we get a little crazy. He makes us laugh when we need it -- which, let's face it, is always.
I'm glad to share a space with Bill, and I hope you want to keep him around just like I do.
Here's where you can donate to the Bill Fund online: Linky goodness
LINKY UPDATE: Apparently the link from Kos's diary for the ONE TIME contribution is totally broken, Kos has been notified asking for a fix but in the meantime what I did myself just no was I used one of the other links and after the payment goes thru I will go back to Paypal and cancel just that one "recurring" so it ends up being just one time. Best suggestion I can do at the moment
Here's where you can donate in meatspace:
Send check or MO to Bill Harnsberger, 16 Pitt Street, Portland, ME, 04103.
