One thing that really stood out to me, watching the Republicans's reaction to President Obama's speech... they are very, very, unhappy.
Why?
I think it's because a realization is sinking in. This thing has, despite their best efforts, gathered momentum to the point that it's certain something is going to happen.
And they wanted nothing.
On the flip:
I always loved the Twilight Zone. One episode would not leave my mind in the hours after the President health care reform speech: it's called "On Thursday We Leave for Home."
James Whitmore played Captain William Benteen, the leader of an expedition which has been stranded on a harsh, barren planet for the past thirty years. He's maintained their survival by being a strong leader. And now, a rescue ship has arrived.
And he doesn't want to go.
As the older members of the expedition remember the green hills and blue skies of Earth, Benteen frantically tries to keep the group together... and keep his place as their leader. But they all have a favorite place to return to, and when the rescue ship signals Last Call, he's nowhere to be found.
He stays behind.
William Benteen, who had prerogatives; he could lead, he could direct, dictate, judge, legislate. It became a habit, then a pattern, and finally a necessity. William Benteen; once a god, now a population of one.

Remind you of anyone?
The petulant fantasy world they have constructed is crumbling around the Republicans, and not a moment too soon. Are they going to respond to the majority of their constituents, who want real Health Care Reform?
They could see the train, ready to leave without them.
Are they are going to remain behind, alone on a barren world?
