S.C.'s Joe Wilson has a challenger in 2010. His name is Rob Miller. He's Democratic. He's a vet. Let's get his take on what we saw last night.
In an e-mail sent out to supporters just moments ago:
Last night, the entire nation saw why I am running to replace Congressman Joe Wilson in the U.S. House of Representatives.
Congressman Wilson’s behavior exemplified everything that is wrong in Washington. Instead of engaging in childish name-calling, and disrespecting our Commander-in-Chief, Joe Wilson should be working towards a solution to make quality health care affordable for every South Carolinian.
Now Congressman Wilson is actually using his shameful outburst to raise money from his big contributors and attack you -- my grassroots supporters. We need to ensure that the families in South Carolina’s 2nd District have a new voice in Washington. Over 18,000 Americans have stood up against Joe Wilson’s outburst. But I need your help again.
While Wilson outlines the evident nature of committed actions by Wilson, a fresh AP story has quotes from people who still... Yes, still stand behind this idiot Joe Wilson. South Carolina. Predictable.
"He's the only one who has guts in that whole place. He'll get re-elected in a landslide," said John Roper, an insurance agent, as he sat among patrons at a diner near Columbia.
Figures. An insurance agent standing up for rhetoric and lies is not surprising.
Even people who see it was wrong still can't be swayed.
"Joe was very immature. He's always been pretty under control. I'm a little embarrassed," said Roy Smith, a business manager who spoke as he ate breakfast in Cayce. "I voted for Joe and probably still will."
So, let it be known. Immaturity gets votes in South Carolina.
But, I do say there is a choice, people. You have to wake up from the years of failed and miserable brainwashing in the South to see it. Rob Miller makes for a better congressman.
As a former Marine who proudly served our nation in Iraq, I was appalled at watching anyone call our Commander-in-Chief a liar. But to do it in front of the Congress and the entire nation was even more outrageous.
South Carolinians are facing tough challenges. If ever there were a time to put bickering and name calling aside and be part of the solution, that time is now. I will work to bring good jobs to South Carolina and stand up for our veterans and military families.
P.S. Congressman Wilson’s behavior last night exemplified everything that is wrong in Washington. Let’s reach $1 million raised in the next 24 hours to defeat Congressman Joe Wilson and provide a new way forward for South Carolina.
