watching non-stop 9/11 coverage all day today, I'm reminded of how I felt on 9/12...how this Country came together...united as never before...the whole world on our side....only a moron could screw that up.
over the few weeks following 9/11, most of us learned about Al-Qaida, Bin-Laden, the Taliban and Afghanistan, we knew them to be the culprits, a radical fundamentalist religious movement that had declared war on us, headquartered in the middle of nowhere. As learned about our enemy over the next few weeks Bush simultaneously, albeit slowly, created and executed a battle plan to topple that government and apprehend those responsible. And things were going well...all the way until the summer of 2002, when Bush began selling us his war on Iraq.... Only a moron could squander the spirit of September 12, 2001
Watching yesterday's non-stop coverage, I thought MSNBC should continue to follow how our saga unfolded....how Bush snatched defeat from the jaws of victory....I wish they'd play one hour of headline stories as carried by the other networks 8 years agi, starting today and each day up through and including the day we invaded Iraq.
As we deal with irrational propagandistic domestic opposition to every policy initiative of the Obama administration, how instructional to relive, again, how those same folks managed our post 9/11 world....the way the Bush administration with the aid of its media henchmen, eventually morphed the war against Al-Qaida into the war against Iraq...to see, again, the constantly evolving rationale, the carefully worded misdirection....how they worked the media, cowed the congress and created a near fascist brand of political partisanship where any dissent was deemed unpatriotic....all to execute a plan that backfired in their face..because, ultimately, it was a stupid thing to do at a stupid time with predictable consequences that were championed at every step of the way by the same party stalwarts running the show today.
We find ourselves bankrupted and mired in untenable circumstances on two war fronts because of the malfeasance, ignorance and unwillingness of the Bush administration to brook opposition or admit even simple mistakes.
To pick on Bush is to pick on those who ran his political machine because those same folks running their the show today....and they must be stopped...
Through a miracle of modern political slight of hand, the way right wingers in the GOP have been led to believe that Bush was no conservative at all...Bush was actually a liberal, masquerading as a conservative....and the one thing those people know...the one thing they've been programmed to believe above all else...is that liberals are bad and they oppose liberals. Liberals are the opposite of them. They are conservative and good. Everyone else is liberal and bad. But this fantastic frame of twisted self-reference is inherently flawed and will blow up in their faces when basic logic is applied to it.
They are conservatives. Conservatives are good. The opposite of good is bad. Liberals are bad. Conservatives are therefore the opposite of Liberals. Good is the opposite of bad. But it sure seems like Bush was bad...yep, no escaping it...that guy was a fuckup....so if Bush is bad, then Bush must be a liberal...even Rush is saying so.
Didn't you vote for that liberal twice?
Because the radio and t.v. you listen to told you he was conservative, that the other party was bad, that you had to oppose them, so you had to vote for Bush...remember? I remember.
The same radio and t.v voices now telling you Bush was a liberal, the same ones telling you to hate and oppose everything about Obama...they are the same who told you ...twice...with absolute certainty and conviction, to vote for a liberal because he was a conservative.....izzat what I'm hearing?
If Bush was wrong back then because he was a liberal masquerading as a conservative, yet you believed in and supported him and his policies, then by your definition, you believed in Liberalism....but since Bush was liberal, then his opposite must have been conservative and therefore good...but I remember the opposite of Bush was the democrats...so, the democrats who opposed Bush must have been good...If democratic policies were the opposite of the bad policies of Bush, and Bush was bad, then those democratic policies must also have been good. Yet those are the policies that the radio and t.v guys are now telling me are bad, evil and unAmerican...but those guys were wrong about Bush...if they were wrong for 8 years....what makes you think they are more reliable today?
I dunno, I remember September 12, 2001...my country united...the world on our side.....only a moron could screw that up.
