There was a fascinating piece in the October issue of The Atlantic about the way the media reacted to the Sotomayor nomination and its impact on the future of journalism and even its impact on the future of democracy. More below the fold.
The article, which can be found here runs the gambit on the current state of professional journalism and takes a hard look at the way the media handled the initial coverage of the Sotomayor nomination. I post this because I'd love to know exactly what the Daily Kos community thinks of this piece.
The article is quite critical of the echo chamber "partisan" news and the emergence of blogs has created. In a way, the article sounds like the typical "traditional media" reaction to the emergence of new media and their diminishing role as the gatekeepers of information, but as someone who holds one degree in journalism and is currently chasing another one, I find many of the points raised here to be intriguing.
I leave it to you, the Daily Kos community. Regardless if you feel that this piece is baseless whining or if you think it hits the nail on the head, it is an interesting read. Thanks for taking time to read my diary.
