Massachusett's Legislature will vote on Thursday whether to allow a temporary appointment to fill Senator Kennedy's seat. The special election for a new Senator will be in January.
Massachusetts will have only one Senator representing them until the special election in January unless the state legislature approves a measure to allow an interim appointment to fill the vacant seat of Senator Ted Kennedy.
The bill being voted on Thursday would require that any Governor of Massachusetts appoint a temporary Senator of the same party as the former member. It is designed to improve the law that was passed under the former Republican Governor Romney.
Senate President Therese Murray (D) is very reserved in her support. Republican's hoping to delay the law to make it useless may hold up the bill for five legislative sessions. This could mean a delay of several days or several WEEKS. It is imperative that Massachusetts activists contact Senator Murray at 617-722-1500 to urge her to be more active in her support. Let's not let Ted Kennedy's health care dream die with him!
