My husband and I recently moved. As always with moving comes going through old items, and disgarding them. I found a box of old medical bills. It was the size of a banana box, but inside was six months of bills from 2007.
The one that struck me as absurd. In November of 2007, I had an MRI performed on me for my MS. I was pre-approved for the MRI. I have a letter saying that Blue Cross Blue Shield was happy to tell mt that my MRI schedule on such date was going to be covered 100%.
Then the letter that followed was one stating that the claim would not be processed. Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan wanted my past insurance information, even from when I was a kid. They wanted to see who else had paid out on MRIs. Finding out that I previously had MRIs for the MS and on my left knee from back in 2000, they denied the claim.
The grand total that I was billed for a 15 minute MRI: $3,040.00 and I never paid a cent, because it was not right. I have been harassed by the hospital and the collection agency ever since over an MRI to see how my MS was doing to alter my treatment.
Absurd! Ridiculous! It's all those and more. But it was a reminder of the 15 years of headaches I have gone through.
Let's pass single payer, so we don't have to deal with a middle man denying claims!
Peace,
Adrian Campbell Montgomery
