There is a simple solution to the health care problem in this country, a country that has been brainwashed to equate socialism with demonism. Forget about socialized medicine. Just do this:
Redefine what it means to be "entitled." Pick a figure. (I am in no position to know what a realistic figure may be, so I will just take an educated guess. The OMB could provide a real figure.) Let's say an individual--or for that matter--a married couple has an income of $200,000. Well, I'm happy for you, and I assume that you can afford to go to your doctor, your dentist, pay the rent and put food on the table. You do not get a Social Security check. You do not get Medicare. If you are concerned about a truly catastrophic medical bill, you can take out insurance to cover that possibility--private insurance.
Now some will whine that they have paid in their F.I.C.A. and their Medicare dollars so they are entitled to the compensation. No. You're not. What you were paying for when you had those dollars deducted from your paycheck was the very real possibility of riots and insurrections--if not outright revolution--when millions become homeless, ill, and poorly fed and begin wandering the streets of your community. F.I.C.A. and Medicare payments were your contribution to a stable society, maybe even a fair or just society. We won't go into the deeper philosophical issue of how it is you happen to be earning $200,000.00 in a society where most of your fellow citizens earn a fifth of that. We'll let that pass.
