Dahling, I've got to tell you something
And I don't say this to everybody..
You look mahvelous! Absolutely mahvelous! (Mahvelous!)
It’s Friday... and no matter whether you are at a high point or a low point (not sure which is better for Wheebles)... you have some reason to celebrate—and we want to hear about it.
More after the jump...
WHEE (Weight, Health, Eating and Exercise) is a community support diary for Kossacks who are currently or planning to start losing, gaining or maintaining their weight through diet and exercise or fitness. Any supportive comments, suggestions or positive distractions are appreciated. If you are working on your weight or fitness, please -- join us! You can also click the WHEE tag to view all diary posts.
Go to the comments section (you know where it is) and give us a reason to go woot! woot! Maybe today is the day you decided to get serious about your health (again)... or you’ve lost some weight... or got off your butt... or fit into clothes... or got a good report from your doctor... or learned a new tip. Hearing about your story will encourage us all... so don’t be shy. Drop a line in the comments – what have you done lately to live healthier?
In the meantime, will share some of my experiences with Weight Watchers. From reading comments over the past few months, sounds like a number of you have participated in WW at some point in your life.
I really had no idea what to expect when I went to my first meeting in May of this year. The idea of counting points sounded so counter to anything I would be capable of... but I knew some people who had lost a lot of weight, so decided to give it a try.
To be honest, I take advantage of only a fraction of the resources and assistance that WW offers... and I am far from perfect in my execution of the tools I do use... but I guess enough has rubbed off so far. Last night I received my "gold key chain" – a reward for losing 10% of my start weight. I still have another 20% to go.
Some Friday randomness:
* I used to think only in terms of calories, but the WW points system assigns points based on three factors: calories, fat and fiber. I am not sure that most people understand how fat content impacts your weight and health.
* Adding WHEE to WW adds a lot. The insights provided here shed light on some of the WW practices. For example, I am allotted 35 "Bonus Points" a week, on top of my daily 30 point allowance, and I will almost always have one day a week where I run 15+ points over my daily allowance. Here on WHEE, I learned that that these above-average days actually helps keep my metabolism at the right level.
* With WW, you are not supposed to eat less than your point allowance. I am surprised at home many days I need to go find a snack.
* Your "points allowance" decreases as you lose weight. Makes sense, the smaller you are the less you need. But that’s the opposite of my prior weight-loss programs, where I would starve myself, reach a goal, then increase my food intake.
* You get a star every time you lose five pounds. I am amazed at how important these little gold stars are. Like I am back in kindergarten.
* When I treat myself now, I make decisions on WHAT to eat, not HOW MUCH. I will "splurge" on some cookies my daughter made, or a 5 Guys Cheeseburger, but will avoid that second helping when I am already full.
* What sold me the most on WW? In August, I fell off the wagon for three weeks. Didn’t count a point. Ate with reckless abandon. And when I went in for my weigh in, was surprised to see that I still lost some weight. Seems like enough WW habits had become part of my life that even slacking off, I was making better decisions.
* WW ice cream rocks. Only two points!
I didn’t get into the fitness aspects of Weight Watchers (activity is important too), but perhaps another day.
DON’T FORGET: If you are reading this, you must go to the comments section right now and give us a reason to celebrate. Everyone at WHEE wants to congratulate you and encourage you today, please do not disappoint us!
