This coming November we all have an important choice at the polls. This election doesn't just impact New Jersey's families; it affects Democratic and progressive causes all over the country. We are fighting in Washington to make sure that lasting health care reform legislation is ultimately passed and the Republicans have been fighting us every step of the way. If Chris Christie is elected Governor it will only embolden right-wing Republicans to continue to obstruct and derail our ambitious agenda.
My friend, Governor Jon Corzine has been a leader - not only on addressing New Jersey's economic recession, but also in working to lift the United States' economy out of recession in tough fiscal times. And it's not just those of us here in New Jersey who recognize this fact. Vice President Joe Biden made it clear, one of his first acts was to call Governor Corzine and ask his advice. The stimulus plan passed in New Jersey was a model for the American Recovery and Reinvestment Plan because of Governor Corzine's leadership. Chris Christie simply doesn't have the ideas or the policies to get New Jerseyans back to work. On the other hand, Governor Corzine will continue to work with President Obama to bring about positive change.
We all need to get to work right now to make sure Jon Corzine and Loretta Weinberg get across the finish line on November 3rd. I encourage everyone to find a Victory 09 Office near you to volunteer, canvass or phone bank. This is the final sprint. We only have a few short weeks to go. Recently, I visited the New Brunswick Victory 09 Office to thank all of the hard working volunteers for their time. Everyone needs to pitch in whatever way we can on behalf of the Governor, because he has been working on behalf of all of us.
This election is too important to sit on the sidelines. Do you really want to risk having Chris Christie leading our State for the next 4 years? We saw how President Bush and his cronies handled the White House. We can't go back to those dark days. Let's not allow Chris Christie to pick up in Trenton where Dick Cheney and Karl Rove left off. Jon Corzine is a leader with big ideas on how to keep New Jersey moving forward. With Senator Weinberg by his side, Governor Corzine will continue to be a champion for progressive causes in our State.
In just a few hours, Vice President Al Gore is coming to rally the troops at the NJ Democratic State Conference down in Atlantic City. While he's speaking this evening, like many of you I'm sure I'll be thinking back to memories of the 2000 campaign. It was only 9 years ago that Al Gore was running for President and Governor Corzine was in a tight battle in to bring his progressive values to the US Senate. Unfortunately only one of those races turned out the way we wanted, and we simply can't allow the right-wing Republicans to steal another election. They've done it before. Not just in Florida - they've also done it here in New Jersey in recent years.
We only have a few short weeks until Election Day. So, let's get to work on getting Governor Corzine re-elected in November. Please, find a Victory 09 Office near you today!
