Everyone is all-a-twitter about Iran having secret nuclear weapons development facilities. On what grounds? When is the last time Iran sent troops to fight against a country that had not threatened them? Nineteen hundred and forty eight, all of sixty years ago. When is the last time the USA...remember Iraq anyone? Yeah, the democratically elected government says some dumb things, so freaking what? Any dumber than that Bush guy?
So yeah, they signed this treaty the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty and they are violating it. The Horror. Guess who else signed that treaty and is violating it like it was a do-not-dance law in New Orleans during Mardi Gras? That would be the USA.
We signed this treaty back in 1968 and let me just post one little part of this puppy for you all, that part left right on out of the big old post here on Kos about how bad Iran is for violating this treaty....
"Article VI
Each of the Parties to the Treaty undertakes to pursue negotiations in good faith on effective measures relating to cessation of the nuclear arms race at an early date and to nuclear disarmament, and on a treaty on general and complete disarmament under strict and effective international control."
Yep, over forty years ago we promised to pursue complete nuclear disarmament at an early date. Now, thing is that no sovereign country would ever sign a treaty promising never to develop a weapon that other nations have unless those other nations in return promised to stop having the weapon in question. That promise was made and that promise was broken; not a single nuclear power has disarmed, and I think forty years is long enough to state that none have any intention of honoring this treaty. The cold war is over these last eighteen years already.
The USA has used two nukes in war and threatened or considered using them in Korea, Vietnam, Cuba...and we regularly invade countries that we just happen not to like.
Given that this treaty is a bad joke at this point with every country pretending to want to "enforce" it being a very major violator of the terms of the treaty I think we all should support nukes for everyone, let all nations have nukes. The alternative would be to support real nuclear disarmament. Everyone here who has campaigned for that raise their hands...ok, there is mine and...and....
If you are not supporting nuclear disarmament you are supporting a nuclear Iran or you are a damned hypocrite.
