Yesterday, Florida Alliance members joined with allies in the progressive and labor communities outside of a Palm Beach Humana office to protest the company’s recent mailings that falsely warned seniors that their benefits would be cut by health insurance reform. Florida Alliance president Tony Fransetta and AFSCME’s Willie Pouncy Jr. led a rally outside the building, but when they and other activists tried to deliver an open letter to the insurance giant, they were rebuffed and had a door closed in their face by a Humana official.
FLARA President Tony Fransetta reported:
Attendees followed by press then entered the Humana insurance office to deliver the letter from FLARA to the branch manager. After a lengthy wait of over 20 minutes, Mr. Perry (branch manager) arrived and asked group to exit the Humana business office. Once in the hall of the office building Mr. Perry reluctantly accepted the letter, which had been blown up to poster board size. Mr. Perry then expressed some hostility, turned on his heel and went back inside the Humana office - all but slamming the door in the messengers' faces.
