From the GREAT STATE OF NEW HAMPSHIRE (it is too great--shut up!)
Do you read Cheers and Jeers? Do you enjoy good snark? Are you one of those many lurkers in the kiddie pool? Please help us keep paying Bill to write Cheers and Jeers!
We did something incredible two years ago--as a community, we came together to pay Bill to write Cheers and Jeers--this was the first time a group of readers paid a blogger to write! (YAY us!)
Save Cheers and Jeers starts in There's Moreville... [Swoosh!!] RIGHTNOW! [Gong!!]
As an incentive for you to ante up--I have Bill in a secure, undisclosed location. No Cheers and Jeers until you give!!!! Ok--I'm just kidding. I have him tied up in his basement. Molly helped.
I hold the distinction of being the first Kossack to get to meet Bill! You can thank me that he enjoys meeting the rest of you--just think--if it had been a bad experience, he might have ended up in a bunker somewhere afraid of his readers! No meet ups, no celebrity appearances at Netroots Nation...maybe no Cheers and Jeers.
I had a conference in Portland a few years ago and asked if we could meet. Bill and Michael came to the hotel for dinner with my now ex and me. We waited on pins and needles in the pub for them--I was afraid Bill might back out. I went to look at out the door--a guy in a baseball cap walked by and I heard a tentative "Poli?" from the guy--I kept looking out the door until it dawned on me--he was talking to me (duh)! I had never heard anyone say my screen name before! It processed through my brain as "Polly"! Somehow we figured out who we were, I came bearing gifts--I had filled a glass jar full of copies of the tips Bill had received for C & J--so he got a real tip jar! I brought a bag Kossack 42 had dubbed the Shottel bag (long story--had to do with a very fertile cow) any way--it was filled with New Hampshire stuff and of course cheesy poofs. We had a great time--it was like seeing old friends. I am proud to say that friendship continues to this day and I cherish that friendship more than I can say!
I get to see Bill Saturday--we are having a meet-up in Boston! E mail me if you would like to come but hadn't heard about it!! Do it--you know you want to meet us!!!
Now for the reason for this diary--
Please help us pay Bill to write. The day just wouldn't start right (or left) without Cheers and Jeers! If you are a lurker, please pitch in! C & Jers--come on--please???
In Bill's own words:
Two years ago Kos was kind enough to set up PayPal accounts for both one-time donations and recurring monthly donations. (If you're already a monthly subscriber through PayPal and you want to continue, you don’t have to do anything.) I'm keeping my overall goal the same ($50k). The recurring monthly subscriptions are hugely helpful for minimizing the total needed during this "pledge week," so we're looking to raise $25k. Here're the linkys:
One time contribution: click here.
$5 monthly contribution: click here
$10 monthly contribution: click here
$20 monthly contribution: click here
Or you can mail him a check or money order via snail mail to:Bill Harnsberger, 16 Pitt Street, Portland, ME, 04103.
Here is a photo of an early meet-up--I'm in the checks (now minus almost 50 lbs) Michael is in the white t-shirt and Bill is in the cap!
My challenge for tonight--I will send Bill a dollar for every recommendation this diary receives ( I may have to do it in installments, but I will do it!!)--so call all your friends!
UPDATE: I am copying all the recommends into a word file so I can count them--the next Save C & J diary should be up sometime this morning, so my offer has expired! Thanks--I will let you know how much it is later!
Thanks! LONG LIVE CHEERS AND JEERS!!!
