Here is this week's concert, put together of pieces I have played, am currently playing, or just like a lot.
So away we go...
If you've ever played in Band, you know Percy Grainger. Here is my all time favorite Grainger tune--and not just because it's full of bassoon solos, either.
I hope to be conducting it or playing it again in the Spring.
One of my favorite composers is Ralph Vaughan-Williams. His sound is unique and Genuinely English. It's a shame that this tune has to be broken into two parts. If I was to ever learn to play violin, this is what I would learn to play it for.
Last week was the Gold Star family observances. I posted this one late, and I don't know if everyone got a chance to hear it. It's one of the rarest Sousa marches--The Golden Star. It was written in 1919 for Mrs. Theodore Roosevelt in honor of the President's son Quentin who was killed in WWI.
Finally, a tune I really enjoyed playing. Boisterous and exciting. Imagine that at 2:35 all the veils are off...
