At least it is according to prominent right-wingers. I really have nothing of substance to say, I just want to gloat a little and point out the blatant hypocrisy of our friends on the right. To use my least favorite cliché, Republicans are trying to have their cake and eat it too when it comes to the president being awarded the Nobel Peace Prize.
Now let's recap. When President Bush left office he left behind two wars, a massive economic crisis, a healthcare crisis, and an America with a bruised image around the world. These are the realities. When President Obama came into office Republicans were salivating at the chance to blame it all on Obama. In fact, Rush Limbaugh didn't even wait until he took office; he blamed him just a few days after the election:
"OK, so let me start at the top here connecting the dots. On Tuesday we elect a new president. New president promised even before the election, by the way, when we had a 4,000-point drop -- the president promised to increase corporate taxes, capital gains taxes, the top marginal income tax rate, a massive new energy tax that'll bankrupt coal. And his party is talking about a government takeover of 401(k) plans." Limbaugh continued: "So on Wednesday, the Dow drops about 486 points. It's down 346 points today. But of course, according to the drive-bys, these two events have nothing to do with each other. It's just a coincidence. The market's down today because of the jobless numbers. That's how the drive-bys see it. We have the largest market plunge after an election in history. Thank you, man-child Barack Obama."
So what was his reaction to Obama winning the Noble Peace Prize?
"Obama gives speeches trashing his own country and for that gets a prize, which is now worth as much as whatever prizes they are putting in Cracker Jacks these days."This fully exposes the illusion that is Barack Obama. It is a greater embarrassment than losing the Olympics bid.
Yeah he has the power to tank the stock market just by virtue of his election, but he can't have a positive impact on international relations right?
Let's tune into Michael Steele. His reaction:
"The real question Americans are asking is, 'What has President Obama actually accomplished?'
But just a few months into his presidency Steele had this to say
Obama taking us in the wrong direction and bankrupting our country"
Of course there is also Sean Hannity. I won't even bother quoting him directly, but he has blamed President Obama for everything from the financial crisis, on the water crisis, and if he acknowledged that global warming is indeed real he would blame him for that too. I won't be tuning in tonight to hear what he has to say, but I am sure Media Matters will update me.
I am proud of our president. I think that this prize will serve as a reminder of what is expected of him and he will live up to its virtue. I also applaud his humble response, no matter what President Obama has proven time and time again that he is a class act. And to conservatives in addition to being a Kenyan born, Muslim usurper that attended the radical United Church of Christ the President is also a Nobel Prize winner. Suck on that!
