The GOP’s decision to not work for any solutions, but to just oppose everything Obama, is leading them to one absurd stance after another. They seriously have reached a point where they remind me of the "Bizarro World" in Superman DC comics. Here’s what Wikipedia says about Bizarro:
"The Bizarro World (also known as Htrae) is a fictional planet in the DC comics universe...
"In the Bizarro world of "Htrae" ("Earth" spelled backwards), society is ruled by the Bizarro Code which states "Us do opposite of all Earthly things! Us hate beauty! Us love ugliness! Is big crime to make anything perfect on Bizarro World!". In one episode, for example, a salesman is doing a brisk trade selling Bizarro bonds: "Guaranteed to lose money for you". Later, the mayor appoints Bizarro No. 1 to investigate a crime, "Because you are stupider than the entire Bizarro police force put together". This is intended and taken as a great compliment."
"Us do opposite of all Earthly things!" – substitute "Obama" for "earthly things" and you have the GOP strategy.
I can understand opposing Obama's policies by countering with reasoned, thought out, opposing views. But that is not what they are doing, as the deluge of misinformation in the health care debate made clear. Now they have gone even further than all of that oddness. They are twisting around conventional norms of what is good and bad in new and extremely odd ways:
Losing the Olympics is a good thing.
Winning the Nobel Peace Prize is a bad thing.
It’s bad for the U.S. to be popular in the world.
Disrupting town hall meetings and even joint sessions of Congress is appropriate and is a good thing.
Americans should fight on behalf of private health insurance companies, which have been screwing them over for decades.
Lots of other things, of course. It seems to me this constant effort to oppose everything Obama does, no matter how much it flies in the face of past experience, common sense, and established norms is going to start backfiring.
They have gone too far – a pattern of extreme bizarreness is emerging. And they have the right man at the helm!! -- Michael Steele is just the man to keep it going!!
