General McChrystal is asking for a huge troop increase for his US forces in Afghanistan at a total cost of 65 billion dollars. Our National Security Adviser General Jones says that there are less than 100 al Qaeda there.
Are we really going to spend 650 million dollar for each terrorist left there?
Our brave Soldiers and Marines have wiped most of them out and chased the rest into Pakistan and other countries
The Taliban, who didn't attack us on 9/11, are held in check by the Northern Alliance and the admittedly corrupt and inept Karzai federal government.
The Taliban, if they wanted to attack the USA doesn't have the means to do so. They claim to want the Americans and NATO forces to just leave there country. Right now our local military leaders are talking to them about a government power-sharing agreement.
If Vietnam demonstrated anything it was that a corrupt federal government can't hold a country together. However, a triumvirate of the Taliban, Northern Alliance and provincial governments can hold the country together and keep al Qaeda out.
I like Vice President Biden's plan to draw down troops and add predator drones to monitor the country. The predators could attack with hellfire missiles if they had good intelligence on al Qaeda movements.
We have won so let's wrap up operations very soon. We have higher national priorities such as getting the 15 million unemployed fellow Americans back to work.
General McChrystal should ask the 15 million unemployed for the money. Let's see if they see the pressing military need in Afghanistan as more important as there own dire financial situation
