Why? With the weather turning cold in the Northeast, it is now officially Mallomars season. The Mallomar is a cookie that never lets you down, if you don't let them go stale. The combination of dark chocolate coating, fluffy marshmallow and flaky shortbread cookie is simply unbeatable.
Many have written about this extraordinary cookie. They've been featured in a Seinfeld episode, and referenced in major movies such as When Harry Met Sally. The Nanny raved about this delightful dessert. The New York Times first broke the story explaining why the Mallomar disappears from supermarket shelves between April and October (it's too warm to ship and keep Mallomars in many markets -- the quality chocolate will melt).
In truth, the Mallomar is no substitute for health reform -- though it can cure most ailments for a few moments. Nor is the Mallomar a substitute for effective climate legislation, and the Mallomar may one day be threatened by global warming. That said, the Mallomar provides us with anxious expectation for half the year, and sheer gustatory ecstasy throughout the other half. Democrats may break your heart with their unreliability, but you can always count on the Mallomar.
