Johnny, you may well be right as far as election tactics are concerned, especially in the short-term, but your diary is a perfect illustration of one of the reasons my wife and I chose to leave the United States.
To use a historical analogy, you're saying that telling the Easter Islanders to stop cutting trees to move big statues around -- a gods-given right and integral part of the Easter Island lifestyle -- will cause the wannabe Chief to lose the next election.
Right.
So what is the alternative? Go on cutting trees?
If so, I hope that you like the taste of chicken because I'm told humans taste just like chicken, and that's what was next on the Easter Islanders' plates.
America: never has a collectivity in history worked so fervently towards its own downfall.
Except maybe Easter Island.
