UPDATE: So I'm going to update this so that everyone is clear that I despise Corpodems, Conservadems, and the Bluedogs. I just want to say that our resources would be better spent unseating Repubs than getting in primary wars with members of our own party and possibly losing seats. Okay? That is all. Now for the original diary:
Okay, so let me explain... I think that we Dems are not a united party. We are a big tent party. Don't get me wrong, I've been increasingly pissed off at some Dems who think that voting with their party goes against their moral character... Well, I will punish them for voting against cloture, but if they vote against final passage, I don't think we should kick them to the curb, and here's why:
Right now, the Republican party is tearing itself apart because they want Club for Growth a-holes on the ticket. They demand complete purity, and they are losing support for precisely that reason.
I think we should be as vocal as we can demanding that Democrats act like Democrats, but if we try to primary their sorry asses, we will be no better than the jackass hecklers at Lindsay Graham's townhall, shown below the fold:
We must push for party purity, but never demand it. If we can push right leaning Dems to the left that is great, but if we allow a rightwingnutjob to take their place, we are worse off. This is not just because the RWNJ's vote will always be in conflict with our goals, but also, because it could cost us the leadership of the House and Senate.
Leadership of these two bodies of government, even if it is so crappy as that which Harry Reid provides, has the right to decide what is called for a vote. This is important. We should not forget it.
So I say Party Unity My Ass. We may all have disagreements from time to time, but what separates us from the right, is that we do not force all of our members to put party above all else. For example see the House vote on the stimulus.
That is all. Now what kind of beer are y'all drinkin' tonight?
