What if you could give $100 to the DNC with the specific condition that it not be released until a Public Option was signed into law. And if that condition wasn't met, you'd get your money back?
If you're like me, you're probably getting calls and emails from the DNC, the DSCC, and the DCCC asking for money. I tell them they can have my money when Democrats pass Health Care Reform WITH a robust, non-triggered Public Option.
But I don't feel like that particular message carries a lot of weight. So I got to wondering: Can we set up an ActBlue page, or some other place where people can donate --or pledge-- money that will be released in equal shares to the DNC, the DSCC and the DCCC only once Health Care Reform, with a robust Public Option has been passed.
I'm not savvy enough to know how to set this up, so I'm asking for feedback and help from this community.
Please read on.
We all know that the Insurance lobby is lavishing money on various members of Congress who, in turn, are doing their best to delay or defeat Health Care Reform.
But what about those of us (you know, the Citizens who are supposed to be represented in DC) who don't have Billions of dollars to advance our agenda?
I figure, if we can get some momentum behind this, and figure out the infrastructure, it could become a real incentive for lawmakers to respond to the needs and wishes of their constituents.
I don't know about you, but I get paid for work I've completed. I don't get paid for promising that I may or may not complete my work.
Is there a way to set up a Donation Escrow Account (for lack of a better term)?
I ask again, what if you could give $100 to the DNC, DSCC, or the DCCC with the specific condition that it not be released until a Public Option was signed into law. And if that condition wasn't met, you'd get your money back, to do with as you please.
Democratic Committees could look at a pile of money and know exactly what they'd need to do to get it. Could we, with such an approach, effectively counteract various nefarious lobbies with Grassroots Results Based Giving? (Ok, we'd need to start with a better name for it, but you get the idea.)
So there it is. An idea that may or may not have merit. But please, help me brainstorm about this, and even better, help me make it a reality.
