After a lot of thought, I've finally made the switch. For the first 5 years of my political life, I had vowed to heed the advice of some of our first founding fathers (George Washington) had to say about political parties. But as times have changed in even that small amount of time, and the Republican party has moved from a credible party with ideas to a fringe party bent on destroying the essence of America, I feel that the Democratic Party is the last best hope for the country that I love.
So, I bid my previous status as an independent (in Arizona its Party Not Defined) adieu, and sail into this new life as a Democrat.
Its not as if this comes as much surprise- the last election I had voted a straight Democratic ticket. But maybe it serves as a warning to the Republicans- or a bit of encouragement for my fellow Democrats- that some of us that have been on the fence (especially in a changing state like Arizona who has 28% registered voters as PNDs) are choosing the sane party.
Its not just because of Republican craziness, I really think that the Democratic ideals will keep America strong and united, and leave an opportunity for a better life for my children. Now's the time to work for that opportunity- I guess you could say I need to go grab my mop- and I hope to help my fellow Democrats bring about the change to make America a place where my daughter can pursue her dreams as I've had the chance to pursue mine.
