Please forgive this none political post, we will return to regular schedule programming momentarily. The New York Yankees have not been to the World Series since 2003 and have not won since the year 2000, but tonight they are once again World Series Champs, after besting the Philadelphia Phillies 7-3 in game 6 of the fall classic. Big props to Hideki Matsui, Johnny Damon, Andy Pettitte, and Alex Rodriguez!
I had always wondered how the Yankees would do since the departure of Joe Torre and had little confidence in Joe Giradi, but he has done a great job managing this New York team, finishing third in his division last year and a World Series Championship this year.
This might be the last hurrah as Yankess for Damon as well as Matsui who are in the last year of their contracts. I know it's unlikely that both will return, since they carry big purses and, in terms of Matsui, currently perform in a limited role as the team's designated hitter, but the fan in me would love to see both of them back next year.
A big tip of the hat goes out to the Phillies who, although they didn't prevail as World Series Champions, had a great season! Oh and I would be remissed if I didn't send out a special shout out to baseball's walking legend and the Yankees ace reliever, Mariano Rivera!! Go Yanks!!
