As we all know, young women are often forced into continuing an unplanned pregnancy by the now clearly deliberately high costs of abortion, assuring an unbroken supply of wanted but unaffordable babies to the adoption industry, which makes a huge amount of money on each baby brokered. (Many are exported to rich couples abroad.)
See "Adoption and the Role of the Religious Right"
I have a modest proposal for licensing of baby sellers and taxes on profits from selling adoption brokering of babies, which could be used to pay in toto for all procedures involving maternity for all poor women, including abortions, deliveries, and the like, thereby INSURING a choice for women, and room at the inns (hospitals) for all, including poor women who otherwise are sometimes forced to give birth in 'mangers', sheds, Dumpsters and the like.
We know that:
Adoption is a huge business with international import/export implications, and the US has recently turned into a baby exporting nation.
The sums of money exchanged could easily pay for poor women's choice, but instead they are being used to finance churches and baby brokers lifestyles.
Poor women are often given a start choice between huge bills and giving up their babies. That method of extortion has to end.
It comes down to looking at this situation and trying to analyze the inputs and outputs. On one end you have the sperm, the egg, Nature, and life's ups and downs, on the other end you have a predatory faith based industry that veils itself in piety, a group of publicity hungry politicians, the media and a poor helpless baby, worth as much as $50,000 or more, and childless couples hoping to adopt, engaging in bidding wars with each other, to the delight of the baby brokers. You also have the market, supply and demand, scarcity and plenty, and a poor young woman, who cannot pay her medical bills, that is, until her broker steps in and offers her help, FOR A PRICE. The price is, her first born child.
The civilized nations don't still have this happening, thanks to universal health care with no huge fees, poor women now can keep their babies. babies for adoption are now babies with their happy natural mothers. So, the rich couples turn to the US.
You've heard of viatical settlements, in which people who have expensive life insurance policies, sell a financial interest on their own deaths in order to get some money to live now.
Well, how about a tax on all adoption profits, in which all adoption brokers would pay a tax on all adoption profits to "insure" that all women had a choice?
