Are Fred Phelps and his Westboro Baptist Church some sort of liberal plant? Honestly, I'm really starting to think so. Before they're done, they will singlehandedly discredit homophobia and gay bashing in this country.
They're at it again this morning, and this time their target is even weirder than usual:
This week, they’re bringing their hateful message to children in Washington, DC, planning pickets at a handful of local schools. This morning, they showed up outside of Sidwell Friends, the school that Sasha and Malia Obama attend.
Like most of their protests, the group has an odd rationale for it:
"Quakers?! Are you frigging kidding me? You pretend to be all non-violent, and you allow the most bloody, deceitful, evil, murderous bastard and his shemale sidekick to place their satanic spawn within your four walls?" reads the posting for today's protest at Sidwell Friends, which is a Quaker school.
As usual (and as planned), the media has taken notice:
Washington Post education reporter Michael Birnbaum said that he spent the morning at the protest, and MSNBC host David Shuster wrote, "Hopefully, some of the more rational conservatives/republicans will condemn this stuff today. It was beyond the pale."
Phelps and friends have got a busy week ahead of them:
They plan to picket the Fort Hood memorial service this Tuesday.
C'mon, these people have just got to be some kind of false flag operation by a gay rights group. Even the hardcore right is embarrassed by their rhetoric...
...bloody, deceitful, evil, murderous bastard and his shemale sidekick to place their satanic spawn...
Well...come to think of it, maybe they're not all that far from the Republican mainstream.
