Restaurant owner eyes challenging Bayh in primary
I don't have much information about this yet because the news just broke today, but it looks like a woman in Bloomington, Indiana named Tamyra d'Ippolito is planning to primary Evan Bayh. She's a fifty-year-old restaurant owner who survived cancer and has been without health insurance since opening her restaurant. She cites Bayh's stand on healthcare and his treatment of the poor in general as her reasons to run.
From what I can tell, d'Ippolito is planning to take advantage of the smaller turnout at the primaries to get her name on the ballot, hoping to court those who are unhappy with Bayh's current performance. She has people working right now to get the 4,500 signatures she requires to get on the ballot.
As I said, I don't have much information about her yet, and the Google turns up nothing beyond the newspaper articles announcing her run. So, I obviously don't know enough about her to back her or not. But, so far at least, she sounds promising. I'll try to keep an eye on this and bring back more information as it develops.
Update: Found a bunch of posts from her on a forum for a group she runs called "The Poor Club" to combat poverty in Bloomington. Much interesting information: The Poor Club Forums
