Today we honor all Veterans and their families who have sacrificed so much in service to this country. You are truly the embodiment of what public service means and we appreciate everything that you have done and everything you have given.
The Blue Star Service Flag was designed by an Army captain to honor his sons serving in WWI. It was quickly adopted by military families as a way to show their love and concern for loved one fighting overseas. Over the years it came to be associated most with the women who sewed the flags that were displayed in the windows and on porches of homes where a brother, husband, or son was in harm's way during times of war. One blue star was added for each loved one that was fighting. During WWII the Blue Star Service Flag could be seen in thousands of homes around the country. Flags displaying a gold star with a blue edge marked a home where a loved one had died in service to their country.
Families - display your service flag proudly today as we remember all of the soldiers and their families who continue to put themselves in harm's way for us. Thank you for your service.
Veterans - There are no words to adequately thank you for the hardships you take on, the sacrifices you make, and your dedication to your jobs. I know most soldiers don't care about accolades and just want to do their jobs to best of their ability but today accept the praise, enjoy the thank you's. You have earned all of it and more. Thank you for your continued service and protection of our country.
