Dere Diary (as Little Lulu used to say),
Just go an email - the first direct response I gotten so far:
Hi,
Just wondering if you have given up the fight writing about the farce that is the Obama Making Homes Affordable Program.....This Obama is the biggest fraud i have ever seen, all talk and NO results , making BIG promises and nothing ever happens....just watching him more and more disgusts me and i was once of the mindset that he could make the changes he said he would....anyway, the MHA is a joke if you havent already figured that out...if you have anything that could help the desperate peopleout there please post as time is running out quickly.....thanks !
Well, this was unsigned but it got me thinking. And here's my response to the writer and to readers of this diary:
Well I never give up a good fight. Problem is, I'm fighting several good ones at the moment, including trying to avoid foreclosure myself. Also, I have yet to think of a way to unify the folks who have responded to this MHA/HAMP diary, which was originally intended to be an impartial assessment of MHA.
One thing I can do is ask to everyone: what should we do now?
Problem here, judging from reader comments and poll responses to date, is that where some readers will call for measures to ENFORCE MHA and others will want to ABOLISH the darn thing.
From I what read here and read elsewhere - even the latest news - it seems that MHA is NOT working well and conceivably that it was never even intended to work well: a sham is how one financial planner I know described it. Many knowledgable posts to the diary tend to support that opinion.
So WHAT CAN BE DONE? One need is for a mechanism - letter writing, networking with housing groups, who knows what - for articulating public opinion, pro and con MHA, to elected officials and to Obama's economic team. What's bothersome about MHA so far is that ordinary Americans, those who Obama pledged to listen to and to serve, seem not only to be powerless but voiceless as well in the present situation.
During the Great Depression, FDR helped ordinary people. Today, Obama seems to be helping the banks.
This little MHA diary might also provide useful information about how to help applicants for loan modifications under MHA. I lack time now to dig up that info - but I will post it when you send it to me.
Ideas, people, we need ideas! Send good ones - not vitriol - and I will post them.
Thanks all who have read and commented and God Bless America,
Steve
