I just wanted to report two encounters I had today regarding Health Care Reform. The first was with a telephone pushpoll, the second was an e-mail survey from Dick Durbin, which looks like a national poll, since I don't live in his state.
The first encounter was a phone call, an older gentleman, well-versed in his script, asking how I felt about the wasteful spending bill otherwise known as health care reform that evil Nancy Pelosi is pushing through to the Senate, and whether I supported it. I said that not only did I support it, but I didn't think it covered enough people, that it should cover everyone, and that the only people truly opposed to Health Care Reform were corporate shills and nuts that are so stupid that they can't see that they are being used. He hung up on me. I wish that I could have responded differently. In "Ideal World", I would have said I was a nurse, and asked if he was a senior citizen, was he happy with medicare, and didn't he think that the workers who paid for his health care should get health care that was just as affordable and just as good. But alas, it was a missed opportunity. His number is on my caller ID, maybe I should call him back, at least it would take some of his time away from his endeavor.
The second encounter was via e-mail. It was a ranking survey, where you indicate 10 for strongly support down to zero for don't support at all. There were five positions to rank in that manner: 50 State Public Option, Opt-Out Public Option, Opt-In Public Option, Trigger, and No Change. No big surprise, I strongly supported the 50 State Public Option, Half supported "Opt-Out" and gave no support to the other three positions.
Just reporting what is "out there" in my world.
