This morning, Erick Erickson at RedState.com got the vapors because the Obama Administration is transferring KSM to New York to stand trial. Among the other things that had Erick reaching for the smelling salts was this:
At worse, Khalid Sheikh Mohammed will gain access to classified material he can then leak to other terrorists while New York yet again becomes a target for terrorists.
I never understand why people who do not live in New York are so afraid of terrorists attacking New York again. I actually live in New York, and I don't walk around in fear. I can attest that most New Yorkers don't.
So, I wrote Erick an e-mail:
I am not sure where you live, but I live and work in New York City. I had friends both escape from and perish in the Twin Towers on 9/11.
However, I am not afraid to have KSM (or any other defendant charged with international or domestic terrorism) in my town for trial. If a terrorist group wants to hit New York City, it will try whether KSM is here or not. And, if we are hit again, we will do exactly what we did last time--mourn, pick ourselves up, and move forward.
But, I will not and not live in fear of it. Most New Yorkers do not. We are a much more fearless lot than you seem to give us credit for. Frankly, I am more concerned about having a crane collapse on me or being hit by an errant taxi, than I am of being the target of a terrorist attack.
Erick's considered response follows:
