Somehow, I'm pretty sure they're would. And that colossal failure of an idea is just as bad as if not better than what Obama's progress has been on LGBT rights.
President Obama promised to be a "fierce advocate" for the LGBT community. I don't know what your definition of that is, but mine would be something like this:
- Actively fights for LGBT rights
- Supports LGBT rights
- Doesn't tell them to "wait a few years" because he's too busy right now or whatever other excuses the apologists dish out
- Actively pushes senators and congressmen to take up a vote and support LGBT rights legislation.
- Fights against bigoted right stripping state referendums.
- Use his bully pulpit to make the case for equal rights for the LGBT community to the American people.
Being a fierce advocate is NOT:
- Inviting "ex-gays" and bigot gay hating preachers to campaign with you.
- Telling the LGBT to wait a few years and maybe something will happen...maybe.
- Appoint the leading sponsor of the DADT repeal, Ellen Tauscher, to an executive position.
- Compare them to pedophiles to prove a point in a court case.
- Be silent when anti-gay referendums are narrowly passed in states where his help would have a major affect.
- Does nothing to push LGBT rights through the house or senate
- Threaten to veto a bill containing the Matthew Shepard act as an amendment just because it had pork he didn't like
- Dismiss the LGBT community as part of the "fringe left"
- Scrub your website of language promising to repeal DADT and DOMA after winning the election
In fact, all of those above don't even seem like a DEMOCRAT would be doing them, much less a "fierce advocate".
