Now why can't we have more of this....It would go a long way in moving this country forward!!
Just got done watching Gingrich, Sharpton and Duncan have a detailed discussion on MTP with Gregory. While I won't go into all the detail as that is not the purpose of this diary, the mere fact that these 3 guys could sit there and have a very positive, constructive dialogue on one of the most critical issues facing us as a country today was very heartwarming and makes me wonder what made this possible on this issue and why can't we replicate this on other issues.
It was fascinating to watch each of them treat each other with the utmost civility and cut each other off to further build and support the point being made. They essentially decided to identify that which they could agree on and declare to each other that they would move forward on those elements. Gingrich said that he wanted to see if Sharpton and Duncan were going to be serious and tough and once he saw that, he signed on fully.
They took on the unions in the discussion(both NEA and AFT)and insisted that serious reform was critical.
Regardless of your position on this issue, I think you should feel encouraged that it is possible to work on serious national issues in a bipartisan way.
If someone can find it and embed the video, it would be great.
