First we have the incredibly dangerous, and totally to be expected Psalm:109:8 fiasco, brought to us by well known theocrats and Anti-American christofascists. As if this isn't bad enough, Senator Orrin Hatch (R-Mormon-Utah) has declared that there will be a "Holy War" against the Presidents health care reform agenda.
WTF? "Holy War"????
Does a Senator, who just happens to be a member of a well known discriminatory religious institution really need to be declaring "Holy War" on our President? A man that, just by coincidence, happens to be an African American?
Is this just a coincidence, or is it a concerted effort by the right wing to create violent dissent? I honestly don't know, but I can say it is a pretty assed up bit of language from the Senator from Utah.
As a background, individuals with black skin were not permitted into the Mormon priesthood until 1978.
This is significant, in the mormon faith almost all male members of the faith are lay priests. Prior to 1978 no black members were able to participate with any level of fullness in the mormon faith. Not only were they denied priesthood, but they were denied even the most fundamental sacraments, including marriage in the church.
In 1978, after fierce internal battles the racial exclusion policy was lifted.
However, in the same church communication that lifted the restriction, they declared that "interracial marriage is discouraged"...
A strong argument can be made that the lifting of the restriction was made for political reasons and to allow the church to expand membership into Brazil and other mixed-ethnicity countries, but that the Elders and Prophets of the church did not agree as a group to make that change.
Even today, there are many well known fundamentalist mormon sects that have not lifted the restriction.
Now the "good" MORMON Senator has declared a " Holy War" on the first African-American President in the history of the United States... and directly after it has been revealed that the right wing is clearly "trolling for assassins" with their horrendous and disgusting use of biblical language.
